Conditions of the uterus & ovaries

Conditions of the uterus and the ovaries are among the most common reasons for visiting a gynaecologist. Some develop silently and are found during a routine check, while others cause pain, heavy periods or difficulty conceiving. It is an accurate diagnosis that determines whether simple monitoring, medication or surgery is needed.

Fibroids

Benign growths of the uterus, particularly common during the reproductive years. Many cause no symptoms at all and need only monitoring. How they are treated depends on their size, their position and the symptoms they cause - and we discuss the most suitable approach together.

Polyps

Usually benign growths which can nevertheless cause bleeding between periods or make a pregnancy more difficult. They are found during a gynaecological examination and are treated effectively.

Endometriosis

A condition that can cause severe period pain, chronic pelvic pain and difficulty conceiving. Diagnosing it requires experience and is often delayed for years - which is why it is worth not «getting used to» the pain, but having it investigated.

Adenomyosis

A condition of the wall of the uterus that typically presents with heavy and painful periods. Treatment is tailored to your age, the severity of the symptoms and your wish to have children.

Congenital uterine anomalies

Anatomical particularities that are present from birth. They are often found during the investigation of infertility or recurrent miscarriage. Some of them can be treated with very good results.

Ovarian cysts

Most are entirely benign and resolve on their own. It is the ultrasound assessment of their characteristics that determines whether monitoring is enough or something more is needed.
